Just wanted you to know that I have just purchased the 3 book specia I look forward to reading the 2 that I have not read.
Thanks Linda. See More. And while that fact IS acknowledged, and Rupert tries to keep her at arm's length, the plot must go on and so they are tied together. To be honest, I can understand why Clare was so adamant that she was a woman, even when she was only I get it, she's younger but wants to be older.

That's fine. But it was still an odd match. But let's not forget all the red flags in here that I ignored hoping they'd go away. All the times Clare mentioned that she wished Rupert would treat her like a woman. And that one drunk scene, not to mention when he walked in on her and things If this was clean, I shudder to see what is normal reading.
Yes, I should have stopped reading, it's my own fault. But seriously? Putting this in a book marked as clean? Not to mention the swearing, too.

Debutante Clare Carradale loves her friend Pippa, and Pippa loves Clare's brother Justin, so when Pippa's cold-hearted, middle-aged guardian, her Uncle Rupert, nixes their anxiety to marry, Clare goes to beard the ogre in his den, and charm Uncle Rupert into submission. After all, she knows she can successfully manipulate fatherly gentlemen around to her way of thinking. When she finds Sir Rupert, however, he proves neither as old, nor as malleable as she expects, and temptingly handsome to boot Debutante Clare Carradale loves her friend Pippa, and Pippa loves Clare's brother Justin, so when Pippa's cold-hearted, middle-aged guardian, her Uncle Rupert, nixes their anxiety to marry, Clare goes to beard the ogre in his den, and charm Uncle Rupert into submission.
When she finds Sir Rupert, however, he proves neither as old, nor as malleable as she expects, and temptingly handsome to boot. However, for reasons she cannot fathom, he is dead set against any marriage between teenagers, and considers his niece, Justin, and Clare herself mere children, and far too young to make a lifelong decision, despite Georgian-era standards. Such an intractable attitude bodes ill for Clare's friend and brother, and her own plan to captivate the thirty-three year-old Rupert for herself.
It also sets up a fun adventure, complete with midnight runs for the Scottish border, ruination of delicately-reared young ladies, and the odd murder plot. May 16, Margaret Watkins rated it really liked it. A clean Regency romance with undercurrents of menace directed towards the main characters in this book.
I enjoyed both Clare and Rupert's characters, despite Rupert's abrasiveness and ogre personality. However, Clare sees straight through him and recognises a corresponding connection. Both Rupert and Clare know that they have met before, and that the experience changed them. With Ashendon malicious meddling, he almost succeeds in destroying them.

There are more people for them than against them, and when the chips are down, they all become involved in one way or another to set the record straight. I felt that the hero's vacillation towards Clare was unnecessary, but Clare is one of those people who sees the good everyone, except for Ashendon, who is in a vile class of his own class! I received a copy of this book as a gift, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Dec 11, Virginia Tican rated it really liked it. A slow but satisfying read. Bailey is one author that I do admire and respect and that is the reason why I plodded along the pages of this book. Rupert's extreme reluctance to remarry and to allow history to repeat itself is quite understandable and the malicious antics of Ashendon his cousin and Christian his heir did not help his already beleaguered situation with his young new wife, Clare who is young but steadfast, loyal, faithful and deeply loves her husband very much the opposite A slow but satisfying read.
Rupert's extreme reluctance to remarry and to allow history to repeat itself is quite understandable and the malicious antics of Ashendon his cousin and Christian his heir did not help his already beleaguered situation with his young new wife, Clare who is young but steadfast, loyal, faithful and deeply loves her husband very much the opposite of Rupert's first wife, Meriel. Not as fast paced as I would like but it ends in fated serendipity. Nov 09, Dan rated it it was ok. This book just I felt the conflict between Clare and Rupert to be a bit tiresome, and none of the other characters Will and Blanche as the only exceptions to be not very useful to the plot in general.
The book ended, and I really wasn't feeling anything, not even joy for the happy resolution.
